Amelia started piano training with his father Mr. Chen Pak-chi (a Hong Kong piano instructor) since childhood. She also studied under many famous musicians, include Thomas Wang, Alice Watan, Albert Markov, Shirley Givens, Glenn Dicterow, and double bassist Julius Levine. Amelia Chen has completed the following diplomas and music courses:

Violin Concertmaster
Amelia Chan is Concertmaster of the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong. Amelia Chan was appointed Concertmaster of the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong in 2014. Prior to this, she held a ten-year tenure as concertmaster of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra in the USA. As a experienced orchestral leader, Amelia Chan has worked under distinguished conductors including Michael Tilson Thomas, Manfred Huss, Sergiu Commissiona, Anton Coppola, Zdeněk Mácal, Jorge Mester, Julius Rudel and Gerard Schwartz. She has many performing experiences and collaborated with several internationally recognized orchestras and artists, such as:
- Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra
- New York Philharmonic Orchestra
- The Ying Quartet
Amelia masterful performance skills are highly valued by audiences and fans around the world. She has been invited as a soloist by many famous orchestras. She also was the leader of the Montclair String Quartet. Those orchestras include:
- The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra,
- The International Virtuosi Orchestra,
- The New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra
- The Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra.
At the same time, Amelia also participated in the following performances with the orchestra:
- Cooperstown Chamber Music Festival, New York
- The Pacific Music Festival, Japan
- Costa Rica Music Festival
- The Guatemala Music Festival etc…
Besides, her performances have been broadcast on WQXR in New York, WQED in Pittsburgh, West Virginia Public Broadcasting, BBC Radio Scotland and RTHK Radio 4.
Innovative and unique music education
Amelia is passionate on violin education. As an educator, she recommends teaching from the perspective of body mechanics, based on the body movement and technical coordination. She believes that a focused and detailed guidance approach can develop insight and critical thinking. Students can understand the complexity of music then produce and play music in a natural in an easy and joyful way.
