    Background in Music and Career
Cheung was inspired to love Cantonese lyrics after reading the book “原來你非不快樂 by famous lyricist Lin Xi.  As her interest grew stronger, she chose to study with Lin Xi in order to improve her lyric writing skills.  In 2011, Cheung enrolled in the “Certificate Course in Cantonese Lyric Writing” offered by our school, which inspired her love for Cantonese lyrics even more. She then decided to continue her studies in other advanced courses related to music composition and lyric writing. Her outstanding performance led to her being recommended and signed as a contract lyricist for Mr. Ronald Ng Lok Shing’s Solid Sound Productions Limited.

At that time, Lin Xi was very impressed with her potential and talent, believing that her lyric writing skills were of a very high level.  Therefore, Lin introduced Cheung to our school principal, Ronald Ng Lok Shing, and she became the lyricist for the new song “說散就散“. Finally, this song became a hit in mainland China and Hong Kong with a click rate exceeding billions. It won the “2018 CASH Gold Sail Award – Most Widely Performed Digital Song” and the “(“International Federation of the Phonographic Industry”) 2018 IFPI International Association Global Singles Year-End Sales Chart” with “說散就散” ranking 7th, successfully becoming a star lyricist in Hong Kong.

Beginning with Everyday Life in Lyric Writing
Cheung divides lyric writing inspiration into two categories: long-term and immediate. Long-term inspiration is developed through daily life in order to improve your sense of touch with things. Different inspirations can appear every day if your sense of touch is strong enough, because we all experience different emotions and feelings. If we can capture them at that precise moment, we can use them as good material for lyrics. In terms of immediate inspiration, a song’s melody can easily inspire inspiration, and it can lead to personal feelings and stories, allowing the audience to resonate.

Cheung believes that students who have not studied lyric writing can choose some existing songs to adapt as practice, which will help them improve their lyric writing skills.
